A diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle and cranberries are a great choice to include in your nutrition plan. They are considered a powerful superfruit and are rich in vitamin C as well as several other vitamins and minerals, including manganese, copper, and vitamins E and K1. They also contain a range of vital B vitamins.
Cranberries are related to blueberries and lingonberries, and are most commonly grown in North America. They are primarily made up of water, carbs and fiber and are low in sugar and calories, however, because of their very tart taste, cranberries aren’t usually eaten raw. They’re normally dried or canned, but if you can eat them raw the nutrients and benefits will be higher.

The nutrients and antioxidants in cranberries may even boost the immune system. I’ve read that they are very high in bioactive plant compounds, are good for digestion and have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Many of the plant compounds are concentrated in the skin, so choosing the whole fruit is best. If choosing juice, watch the amount of added sugar, it is often very high.
